ADVANCED FISH CAMP OVERVIEW

MONDAY - INTRODUCTION

· Introduction to Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Joe Budd Aquatic Education Center and Fish Camp; Overview of

· Fish Camp rules and expectations

· Tackle - spinning rod and reel distribution and assembly, types of knots, care of line, selection of lures, tackle box organization

· Casting - demonstration, practice, retrieving methods, landing fish, hook removal

· Introduction to different fishing methods – exposure and practice with spinning combos, baitcasters, and breambusters

· Bank fishing

TUESDAY - BOATING

· Introduction to boats and boating safety

· Review of trolling motor use

· Operation of outboards - safety, controls and their location, kill switch, fueling, starting procedures, troubleshooting

· Practice boating - maneuvering, anchor retrieval, trolling with outboard

· Boat and bank fishing

WEDNESDAY - NAVIGATION

· How to use a compass - demonstration for land and boats, compass scavenger hunt

· How to use GPS - demonstration for land and boats, GPS scavenger hunt

· Boat and bank fishing

· Fishing tournament - boat and shore categories, PRIZES

· Fish cleaning - scaling, skinning and filleting

· Fish Camp Games – fishing golf, slip & slide, casting accuracy contest

· Review of fishing knowledge - safety, tackle, techniques, skill

· Fish preparation and cooking - fish fry for all (parents and family invited)

· Fish games - championship rounds
