Joe Budd is the site of our Apalachicola Research team that also is the focal point for striped bass and sunshine bass research and management statewide.

The Joe Budd Aquatic Education Center is also housed here and has a managed pond and trails to provide aquatic education and fishing programs for school children and other special groups. Registrations are now being taken for summer "Fish Camp."

OVERVIEW
Joe Budd is a Wildlife Management Area near Quincy, Florida. The Division of Freshwater Fisheries houses the Apalachicola Research team and Joe Budd Aquatic Education Center at this site.

Apalachicola Research
Stripers at Jim Woodruff lock and damThe Apalachicola Research team is not only responsible for research and management on the Apalachicola River and its tributaries. But, it also serves as a focal point for Morone research. Morones include striped bass, white bass and the hybrid sunshine bass.

1. Largemouth bass stocking on Lake Talquin to improve the number of bass in weak years between drawdowns.
2. Slough restoration on the Apalachicola River to improve water connection between the main river channel and backwater/floodplain areas.
3. Water allocation issues on the Apalachicola-Chattahotchee-Flint River (ACF) system that  affect Georgia, Florida and Alabama resources and resource users.
4. Gulf striped bass restoration on the Apalachicola River, including collection of broodfish, stocking fingerlings and habitat enhancement
 

Joe Budd Aquatic Education Center Various educational activities enlighten kids from a school class about our aquatic habitats.Joe Budd Aquatic Education Center has its own web page, in addition to this. There you can find details about the courses they offer and their schedule. They are funded by Federal Aid in Sportfish Restoration and provide a wide variety of educational opportunities to youth, primarily by working with the schools.
